Appreciating and Creating Sacred Spaces

 Nature Calls to Us if We Listen. . .

Nature is Within, Without and All Around Us.  

We Are Part of Nature ~ as much as Modern Society

and Big Business Ignores and Denies this Fact.

The Japanese conducted a study on Reducing Stress where people were asked to Walk Daily in the Woods, Forests or Parks. Not just any walk, but “Immersion in the Experience of Being in Nature with the Trees.”  Spending 20 minutes to an hour, using all five senses during the walk. Refreshing their Body-Mind.  Breathing in the fresh, oxygenated air,  fragrant with the scent of pines, firs and other trees, plants and flowers. Drinking pure, fresh water (from your own pure water canteen). Smelling the air itself and the wet earth after a rain. Noticing the fragrant flowers filling the air with their sweet smell of spring or summer. Taking in the beautiful, serene views of the trees, plants and flowers. Hearing the birds singing and seeing them winging from place to place. Noticing the animals scurrying here and there. Enjoying  the sound of the tree frogs chirping, trilling calls. Hearing the sound of the wind rustling the leaves of the trees ~ feeling the gentle caress of the wind on your face. Taking time to feel and experience the tree leaves or needles, and tree bark to notice how it is different on each tree.  Rescuing a lost worm on the trail, flooded from a recent rain ~ the feel of the soil and the soft wriggly worm. Being aware of the pitter-patter of rain drops on the leaves and earth.  You get the idea . . . Feeling The Presence of the Forest Itself. 

“The results show that forest environments promote lower concentrations of cortisol, lower pulse rate, lower blood pressure, greater parasympathetic nerve activity, and lower sympathetic nerve activity than do city environments.”

The researchers found that the participants of the study remarkably healed from many illnesses as they released the stress accumulated in their bodies and minds.  “Forest Bathing” is now a regular wellness practice in Japan.

 I know that this practice works wonders for me during my daily walks in nature.  I have found that true Stress Relief comes from the Trees, Waterfalls, and Lakes or Ponds that oxygenate and release negative ions into the air.  The Wildlife is Inspiring to watch.  Try it ~ you’ll notice a big difference in your overall mood, productivity and well-being.
